Sioux Falls is a city built around agriculture. Though the city´s economy has diversified, farm-supply cooperatives, farm-implement retailers and a meat-packing plant that employs more than 3,000 people are just some of the ag-related businesses that can be found here.
The Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce´s Agri-Business Division seeks to advance and promote the Sioux Empire as an agricultural center and holds several events throughout the year to do so:
- The Chamber-sponsored annual Sioux Empire Livestock Show, held in conjunction with the Sioux Falls Farm Show, features the latest in agricultural technology and the top livestock from across the nation. Click here to learn more about the Sioux Empire Livestock Show.
- Each year the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with dozens of area businesses, sponsors "Ag Appreciation Day" in which the Sioux Empire Fair Association and the Chamber offer a salute to agriculture. More than 5,000 area farmers take part in a free meal sponsored by the Chamber and served by its member volunteers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- The Agri-Business Division also hosts an annual meeting each spring to recognize the hundreds of volunteers. Retiring members of the Agri-Business Division Advisory Council are honored along with the Farm Family of the Year, the Agri-Business Citizen of the Year, the buyers at the Mayor´s Round-Up and Sale of Champions, and the Outstanding Livestock Show Volunteers.
